Wow! We are either at the halfway mark of the season or beyond the half-way mark of the season depending on when you had a bye week.
It was another very successful week in Arvada as we accumulated 11 wins in the 15 game we played. Arvada continues to show very well! We are very excited about everyone's efforts.
I'd like to highlight the 6th-grade Arvada Thundercats who played a rival of theirs last Friday night. The atmosphere around this game was electric as both sides represented very well. The sidelines were packed. The Thundercats and Broomfield played most of the game to a 0-0 tie. Arvada thwarted a couple of early threats by Broomfield inside the red zone. Arvada squashed one threat with an interception at the goal line. Finally, Arvada scored midway through the 4th quarter with a very successful drive. Unfortunately, Broomfield answered back and kicked the extra point to win 8-6. The contest between these two teams was amazing to watch, the fans were great, and the coaching staffs coached a great game. The game and Arvada exemplified the beauty of youth football.
I also watch the 7th-grade Gnars win a nail-biter against Denver West at Denver West High School. Arvada played very well and won the game on a hot, miserable day absent of any noticeable breeze. It was the first time I'd attended a game at Denver West High School this year. Unfortunately, this is not a fan friendly place to play (see below). My walk away is that I'm proud to have the atmosphere we provide here in Arvada.
Parking at LLR continues to improve. Thank you for parking in the designated parking spaces and making this a good experience for everyone.
Arvada is working to be a leader in resolving some of the issues with officials. We've provided many suggestions to JMFA which they are reviewing. Last week we provided dinner to all ten officials at LLR to let them know we appreciate them (because without them we wouldn't have games), and we are working with JMFA and APEX to help accommodate scheduling challenges.
Please continue to do your part and help us keep the officials we have. Coaches are provided a means to give feedback to JMFA and the head of officials. I encourage you to offer your input to your team managers after your games so that it can be added to your coach’s feedback. This approach will be a much more useful tool than attempting to address it on the field during or after the game.
